Book explores personality by wine

By Tara Nelson

Are you a communicative idealist who avoids conflict? You might be a merlot. A difficult perfectionist? You might be a pinot noir.

Descriptions of personality types are featured along with their corresponding wine types in Birch Bay resident Maureen Kelly’s new book Wine Types: Discover Your Inner Grape.

Kelly, who has more than 15 years in consulting based on the Myers-Briggs personality profiles, said she published the book in December 2006, after looking for a way to blend her love of wine and knowledge of interpersonal dynamics.

“Merlots tend to be easy to blend; we’re the people pleasers,” she said. “While the Pinot Noir grape is a difficult varietal and pinot types tend to be the most hard on themselves.”

Kelly has scheduled a book signing for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at La Cantina restaurant at 7876 Birch Bay Drive. The event will feature a wine tasting by Samson Estates Winery in Ferndale. Her book is available for $7.99 by visiting www.winetypes.net.

She lives in Birch Bay with her partner Bobby, two dogs Bo, and Francesca, and three cats Jack, Nick and Simba. Five percent of proceeds will be donated to local animal charities.
