Welcome, month of February. Does your timely arrival mean an ending to winter, or is there still more snowy surprises in store?

Please, February, no more. But if you must persist in snowing, make it light and swiftly going.  January had a few too many snow days where the center was closed. Those days make us realize the value of our Blaine Senior Activity Center.

February promises to be filled with many helpful activities, and the membership dues for the center are only $25 for an entire year of interesting and exciting activities.


Easy line dancing for beginners meets at 9 a.m. and easy line dancing class meets at 9:30 a.m. This is a wonderful way to get a pleasant round of exercise.

Our cancer support group meets at 10 a.m. and is doing very well. It is open to anyone with cancer, survivors and caretakers, or all those whose lives are being affected by cancer. They have great speakers, such as doctors and nutritionists, etc. who supply interesting and helpful information. Come and find that there are many different options you can investigate.

We will be bowling at Mt. Baker Lanes in Ferndale on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. We start at 2 p.m. and have fun with bowling games. Feel free to join us.

One can get some very pleasant exercise in the Tai Chi class meeting at 5:30 pm.


There will be computer classes for beginners. They last four weeks and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Lessons include how to get on the internet and setting up a free e-mail account. This class is limited in size.

Stretch exercise led by Dolly Robb meets at 9:30 Tuesday mornings. Craft and needlework group meets at 10 a.m. Bible study follows stretch class is at 10:20 a.m.

A sing-along group also meets at 1 p.m. and fills the center with music while the painting class is painting. We have placed some of our paintings in the multi-purpose room so more of them enjoyed.


There are pool games and china painting classes at 9 a.m. A creative writing class meets at 10 a.m. Come write your story or listen to the writings of others.

Theater group resumes, meeting immediately after the creative writing class. The various activity groups are even thinking of producing a musical together!

Positive communication classes are rescheduled for Wednesdays, February 7, 14, 21, and 28, meeting at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday afternoons also bring time for games, such as pinochle, Scrabble, and darts also. There is time for tea at talk at 2 p.m. A yoga class meets with Sue at 6:30 pm.


Thursdays bring more pool at and stretch exercises at 9 a.m., and blood pressures are measured by the Blaine fire department at 11 a.m.

The afternoons bring a computer class at 1 p.m. and more game time, such as Mah Jong, Dominoes, bridge, and Scrabble. Something new, we now have a game night at the center on Thursday evenings, so come along and join in.


Getting ready to file that tax return? Don’t just sit there and sweat. Let the AARP learned tax-aide do the sweating for you. Free tax preparation assistance is planned for February 9 and 23 , March 9 and 23, and April 6. Appointments are needed for this.

Strength training classes are again in session. More game time including pool is available at 2 Friday afternoons.


Tai Chi taught by Dennis Day is on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Mondays at 5 p.m. Tai Chi is easy and fun and it very helpful in improving balance and good health. Our great cooks are planning another pancake breakfast for Saturday, February 17. It will be served from 8 a.m. to noon so come in and bring the family, and all your friends. It is only $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Have a nice February. Come in and eat a good meal, relax, exercise, play games, paint, sing, act, or just visit and enjoy our library. Let’s all love, enjoy and support our Senior Activity Center.
