Borderites clip Birds 71-63
Nate Tewalt and Mike Pianki combined for 41 points as the B’s took the measure of a young but aggressive Ferndale team 71-63 in overtime at Blaine’s home opener Tuesday night.
Tewalt may have set some kind of record in sinking all 16 of his freethrows. Pianki scored seven of his 16 total points in the four minute overtime, four of them off steals, as he picked Ferndale’s backcourt apart like a poorly made pizza. Blaine stepped up the tempo at the end, denying Ferndale the ball and forcing turnovers as they went on a 5-2 run in the last 80 seconds, nailing the lid on the coffin with ease.
The Lady B’s opened what
should be a good season by beating Meridian by 52 points
last Monday night in a game re-scheduled by the weather.
Alyssa Hendrickson scored 20 points. Natasha Place and Kellee Herbst combined for 16 rebounds.
