Woman who inspired golf tournament dies
Faye Beaupre, the inspiration for a highly successful benefit golf tournament held at Semiahmoo for the past three years in support of research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), died last Thursday of the disease at the age of 69.
Born Patricia Faye Couillard
in Fort McLeod, Alberta, in 1937, she was married for 49
years to her husband Bob, who survives her. She is also
survived by five children, eight grandchildren, two sisters
and a brother.
The annual golf tournament has raised several hundred thousand
dollars for ALS research since being started just three
years ago, and today provides about one third of the budget
for the Kent, Washington-based Evergreen Chapter of the
national ALS foundation. Beaupre contracted the illness,
also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, five years ago.
