The first Tri Without Borders attracted 360 competitors last Sunday who swam, biked and ran three different courses, two of which began in Canada and arrived at Semiahmoo by water.
Serge Score of Surrey, B.C., swam the nearly 2-mile open course from Peace Arch Park to the beach near the Plover dock in a little over 35 minutes, and Kainoa Pauole-Roth, the fastest woman, was only five minutes behind. Local competitor Dan Persse won the Clydesdale division in his age category in the sprint event, which is a 400 meter swim followed by a 13 mile bike ride and a 5 km run, in just one hour, 30 minutes and 43 seconds.
Organizers Jonathon and Lynne Hoskins said they will repeat the event next year, the date to depend upon tides.
