Farewell reception planned for Derrington

Members of the Blaine community are invited to attend a school district farewell reception for Blaine superintendent Dr. Mary Lynne Derrington from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 14 at the school district office.

Derrington has served the Blaine school district as superintendent since 2003.

Derrington resigned after being offered a teaching position at Western Washington University’s (WWU) Woodring College of Education in Bellingham.

She will be teaching aspiring superintendents and principals in educational administration programs at the college. She will also be responsible for research and publications.

Derrington was hired as Blaine superintendent in July of 2003. Prior to that, she worked as superintendent in the Chimacum school district for eight years, assistant superintendent in Port Angeles, and held the positions of principal and director of curriculum in Kelso.
Her last day in office will be June 30.
