Dog park requested
The Blaine parks and recreation commission is asking for another off-leash area for dogs to be created in one of the city’s parks.
“We would like to request Skallman Park be designated and also have a fenced area,” commission member David Camp told city council members at their April 10 meeting. “This would be something very low impact with a lot of community involvement,” he said, bringing forward the parks commission’s unanimous recommendation.
Blaine community development director Terry Galvin said the proposal would not have a significant fiscal impact on the city but could be “an entirely voluntary effort.” Council gave their approval in principle to the plan.
Camp said that while dogs were already allowed off-leash in Lincoln Park, city regulations required that off-leash dogs be under voice-control. “It would be nice to have somewhere fenced that you could train your dog,” Camp said.
