Young at Heart at the senior center
By JoAn Newby
Leaping we are, into a New Year,
May we fill it with love, hope and good cheer.
Let us move it along with laughter and fun,
Now that 2006 has really begun.
May all of our days have sunbreaks of light,
And stars to shine in the darkest of night.
May Fellowship greet us at most every turn,
And may there be classes with lessons to learn.
May we find wonderful food all ready to eat.
The Blaine Senior Activity Center –
Is a great place to meet.
Our past year was great but now it is done,
With great expectations, a New Year has begun.
Mondays continue finding the crafty ladies busy with their
crafts, and we also find easy line dancing and pool.
Remember that Monday, January16 the Blaine Senior Activity
Center will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
Day.
Tuesday mornings bring a copy of the Bible for the Bible
class, show up for bocce ball or maybe beanbag baseball,
it depends upon the weather. There will be pool for women,
bridge, and painting class in the afternoons.
Wednesday morning brings a walking group from 9:30 to 10
a.m. Also there will be china painting. Our creative writing
class meets Wednesday mornings. Get ready, all you budding
storytellers, come and share your story. Drop in for tea
with Turtle at 2 Wednesday afternoons. Turtle is a new
staff member and if you haven’t meant Turtle, well – you
should. Wednesday afternoons also bring pinoche games.
There is also a fibromyalgia support group meeting January
11 at 2 in the afternoon. There is foot care available,
call for appointments. There is yoga at 6:30 p.m. The Opportunity
Council Energy Assistance will be available by appointment
January 24. Call 255-2192 for an appointment.
Thursday has early stretch exercising and a blood pressure
check by our friendly fire department and there is bridge
and a sing-along. The strength training class will be open
from 4 to 6 p.m. and there will be pinochle at 6. The big
happening – a birthday dinner in honor of all the
January birthdays, will provide special music from Reminisce
with Al and Carol Linde, so don’t miss it.
Friday mornings bring walking, movie/discussion time in
the afternoons with belly dancing January 27 at 10 a.m.
Saturdays also have belly dancing at 10. Remember our pancake
breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. on January 14. What a nice
way to support the center.
So come, everyone – ride, walk, or run,
The fun at the center has already begun.
