Incumbents leading in primary races

Unofficial election results sent out by the Whatcom County auditor’s office showed that incumbent Scott L. Walker and Tip Johnson, candidates for Port of Bellingham District 1 Commissioner, as well as Craig Mayberry and incumbent Laurie Caskey-Schreiber, candidates for Whatcom County Council, District 2, Position A, are leading in the primary election, as of Tuesday.

Walker received 3,163 votes totaling 50.4 percent while Johnson received 2,469 votes totaling 39.3 percent. Ryan Hashagen, who received 369 votes, will not be on the general election ballot in November.

Council incumbent Caskey-Schreiber received 2,615 votes totaling 39.4 percent while Mayberry received 2,350 votes totaling 35.4 percent. Whatcom County Council candidates Dave Ewoldt, who received 250 votes and Tom Anderson, who received 1,220 votes, were the losing candidates

The auditor’s office mailed out 74,075 primary ballots to Whatcom County residents who were eligible to vote in the primary election. Of that number, 14,339 ballots were returned. County auditor Shirley Forslof will confirm the election results on September 30..
