Red tide closure lifted except for Drayton Harbor

Drayton Harbor is the only Whatcom County beach currently closed due to the potential risk of paralytic shellfish poisoning or “red tide.” Health department staff will collect additional samples from Drayton Harbor next week to further evaluate that area. If toxin levels remain low that area could reopen next week.

The warning for Drayton Harbor pertains only to recreational shellfish harvesting. Conditions do change quickly, so people should call the PSP Hotline at 800/562-5632 any time they plan to dig or collect shellfish.
