Arts & Jazz benefit on tap this Saturday at high school

By Dorita Gray

The eighth annual Arts & Jazz is the annual benefit auction and dance which celebrates the talents of the Blaine high school jazz band, chamber choir and art students and the wonderful support given towards their efforts by people who believe in the value of the arts in education.

The evening is hosted by the Blaine Fine Arts Association (BFAA) and is the BFAA’s main source of income. The BFAA is a volunteer group of parents, teachers and community members who promote, encourage and support the efforts of the Blaine art, band, choir and drama students, grades seven to 12. The BFAA provides annual arts scholarships, helps to purchase equipment and offsets expenses that enable students to receive arts experiences beyond the Blaine school’s curriculum. The BFAA is proud of the work and the honors that students are receiving and Arts & Jazz is a wonderful way to celebrate their efforts and share it with the greater community.

This year’s auction will feature a peaceful retreat for two at the Willows Inn Bed & Breakfast on Lummi Island, three autographed Lyle Lovett CDs donated by the artist himself, an overnight stay at the Victorian inn getaway, Smuggler’s Inn Bed & Breakfast on the border in Blaine and many other donations.

Admission is $5 and includes beverages and hors d’oeuvres. The event goes from 7 – 11:30 p.m. in the Blaine high school cafeteria, 975 H Street.
