Water problems at the bay
Officials at the Birch Bay Water & Sewer District are recommending that homeowners check their residences for water leaks after last week’s freezing temperatures and subsequent thaw.
The district believes an additional 500,000 gallons a day is flowing into the ground from pipes that froze and burst during the cold snap. Customers are responsible for fixing leaks on their property and repair bills will get especially costly with the excess water being charged for at normal district rates ranging from $1.60 – $2.95 per cubic feet (100 cubic feet equals 748 gallons).
To report a water leak, call the district at 371-7100.
