Annual Meeting and Dinner

In spite of the baseball playoffs Tuesday night Stephani’s Restaurant had a full house for the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and dinner. It appeared that everyone else from the bay was in Stephani’s adjacent cafe cheering on the Red Sox.

Chamber director Genée Haws Kay ran the meeting which included an election of new directors and guest speaker Patricia Hinchey, new BCBP area port director at Sumas supervising all ports in Whatcom county except Blaine. In addition to reporting on some of the new professional training programs and the expansion of NEXUS, Hinchey emphasized the ports’ primary concern with preventing terrorists from entering the United States while expediting the flow of travel and trade traffic.

The following chamber directors were elected: Paul Schumak, Schumak Services; Lisa Young, Vacationville; Yvonne Schaff, Bank Northwest; Genée Haws Kay, retired office administrator.
