Blaine library to offer goodies during National Library Week
National Library Week is next week April 18 - 24, and there will be a celebration at the Blaine library!
We’ll be giving away bookmarks to patrons checking out books. If you don’t have a Whatcom County or Bellingham library card, this would be a good time to acquire one. If you live or work in Whatcom County, own property here, or have a Fraser Valley library card, you are eligible. Please bring in your current address or photo ID with an additional item showing your current address such as a rent receipt, utility bill, checkbook, etc.
We’re also offering our children’s book bags at half price – 25 cents with many styles from which to choose. Teens especially will want to stop by and enter our drawing for a pair of jeans, autographed by Anne Brashares, author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The winner will be selected at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 23. Also, at that time the winner of the 1998 World Book Encyclopedia set will be announced. If you haven’t yet submitted your bid for the encyclopedias through the silent auction, do so before then.
The library has recently received from generous donors many ‘like new’ older hardcover bestsellers. They’ll be featured items on a special book sale and sell for $1 each. If you aren’t already excited about visiting the library, maybe free cookies will entice you to stop by! Our wonderful Friends of the Library will be providing cookies all week, so the normal policy of no food in the library will be modified accordingly!
Tuesday, April 20, is the first annual National Library Workers Day. The staff is pleased to be honored, but by the same token, feels honored every day to be in the library profession! What a privilege it is to serve our community!
