Council authorizes airport committee

Blaine city council unanimously authorized the creation of a citizens advisory committee to help develop an airport master plan for the Blaine Municipal Airport, during last Mondays meeting.

The city of Blaine is in the process of working towards an airport master plan, and one important part of that, city manager Gary Tomsic said, is the creation of a citizens advisory committee. Once a contract is completed with the consultant to the master plan, the committee will then monitor and provide feedback to the consultant during each work element.

Were trying to get a good balanced committee, city manager Gary Tomsic said, adding the committee would be made of nine to 11 members.

The committee will be comprised of essentially two airport commission members, one city council member, two airport users, two business/chamber of commerce individuals, one school district official, one airport neighbor/land owner, and two citizens at large.

Council members were asked to develop a list of potential committee members. Once created, the committees membership will be discussed during the next couple of council meetings, Tomsic said.
