Great year for Pacific Arts

By Sandy Wolf, Director

2003 was a great year for the Pacific Arts Association. We presented an eclectic mix of concerts in conjunction with the Blaine school district including: Trio Con Voce, A String of Pearls, Chevalier: Maurice and Me and Winter Harp.

We expanded our educational outreach with string and vocal masterclasses by Jennifer Aylmer of the Metropolitan Opera Company and Kyung Sun Lee of Yale University. A five-day jazz festival featuring 64 teens studying with an internationally recognized faculty performed five jazz concerts in various venues around Blaine, Birch Bay, and Bellingham.

In February well host The Bill Hilly Band, recent winners of Best New Release in Western Canada, followed in May by Revolution: A Tribute to the Beatles. The Jazz Festival will be expanded to seven days of study with key returning faculty boosted by additional hires. A String of Pearls will feature Greta Matassa, Earshot Magazines Best Jazz Vocalist on the West Coast. In September well bring the principal flute and oboe players of the New York Philharmonic to Blaine, followed by Winter Harp.
