Blaine habitat home work continues

The first Habitat for Humanity home in Blaine at 940 Cedar Street is close to completion.

One of the last steps is the finishing touches on the interior of the house, and Habitat for Humanity officials are looking for volunteers to help.

Were getting an excellent turnout from the city and people of Blaine, director Terry Mattson said. Theyre just wonderful, helpful people opening up their arms to help us at Habitat to help another family in need. We are really well-received.

County-wide, the organization has built more than 10 homes, however the Cedar Street location will be the first in the Blaine and Birch Bay area. Plans are already underway to build a second home and families are welcome to apply.

What I want to clear up is that Habitat is not a hand-out, you have to work for your home, Mattson said. Families that will be considered for a home must meet economic criteria and be able to work on the home.
