Officers assist investigation

Blaine officers are assisting Thurston County authorities in the murder investigation of 16-year-old Ashley Parks, a Whatcom County girl found dead last week in a wooded area north of Olympia. Her body, authorities said, was likely there for a few weeks.

Parks had entered the Blaine school district in February of last year, and attended Timber Ridge, the alternative high school. She was arrested once in Blaine.

According to Haslip, Parks was last known to be in the Blaine area in early to mid-July. She contacted her mother that month via cell phone, informing her she was in Olympia helping someone move, but would not say who she was with. Her body was found on August 28 near the Chehalis-Western Trail, south of 26th Avenue Northeast, partially covered by brush.

Blaine officers were assigned to help Thurston County investigators with the case. A lot of people have come forward with information about Ashley and the last time they saw her, Haslip said.

Anyone with information can call Blaine police at 332-6769.
