Blaines Old Fashioned Fourth of July next week
The City of Blaine, Blaine Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Bellingham are putting the final touches on the Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities for next Friday, which include a parade and fireworks over the bay.
The festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. with the annual pancake breakfast at the community center. Downtown Blaine will feature a number of vendors and games and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be an arts and crafts street fair, as well as a beer garden, food, show and shine car show and live entertainment. The parade starts at noon.
People interested in participating in the parade or as a vendor can get entry forms from the Blaine Visitors Information center or online at www.blainechamber.com. Participants should get their entry forms turned in to the Center as soon as possible. Children are also needed to decorate bikes to ride in the parade there will be prizes for bike decoration. Contact Nan at 332-6719 for details.
As the event will be held in downtown Blaine, there will be no parking on Peace Portal or H Street from Peace Portal up to 4th on the day of the festival. Cars will be towed away if they are parked there. The parking lots at local banks will most likely be roped off for the show and shine and other activities. Peace Portal will be re-opened after the parade is over.
From 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., there will be a community picnic, jazz concerts and Plover ferry rides at Marine Park. The fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m. at Marine Park. Anyone wishing to make a donation for the Fourth of July fireworks display should call Pam Christianson at Pacific Building Center at 332-5335.
During the day, there will also be events at Semiahmoo Resort, starting at 10 a.m. with a sandcastle extravaganza that will run until 11:30. At 6 p.m., a salmon barbeque will kick off with live music on the dock, followed by a bonfire from 8 to 10 p.m.
