Smart Growth Birch Bay to meet May 13
The next meeting of Smart Growth Birch Bay will be May 13, 7-9 p.m. at the Birch Bay Community Bible Church.
Based
on the responses received to the questionnaire handed-out
at the first meeting, held in early April, the group will
focus on developing effective strategies for:
Working with developers in the Birch Bay Urban Growth
Area to foster smart growth principles.
Working with county planning and permitting officials,
the county planning commission, and the county council around
decisions affecting Birch Bay development.
In addition to discussing these two critical concerns, the group is arranging for a presentation by staff of the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association about the status of the Terrell Creek Stream Steward Initiative.
Smart Growth Birch Bay wants to spearhead a fund-raising effort focused on restoring Terrell Creek habitat. Accomplishing this habitat improvement will result in re-introducing salmon to Terrell Creek in the next year.
Smart Growth Birch Bay has updated its website, www.smartgrowthbirchbay.org, with the addition of a calendar of meetings for the month of the May and a listing of Smart Growth organizations in Whatcom County and beyond.
