Farmer's market plans under way

An idea for a local farmers market, to be held in Birch Bay, is growing. Kathy Norman, owner of the Birch Bay Garden Center, is hoping to start a farmers market soon, and is looking for interested participants.

Norman said she has been thinking about the idea for some time and would like to start the project soon, as crops are beginning to be harvested.

We just want to do a community project, Norman said. Its a great way to get all of the neighbors together and meet people.

Currently, the center is advertising for interested market participants, and Norman said all farmers are welcome. Everybody wants fresh vegetables, she said. Vegetables, fruits, herbs, whatever people are growing.

The market, Norman said, would be open once a week, on Friday evenings from about 4 to 7 p.m. Thats when most people are coming into Birch Bay for the weekend, Norman said. Friday would be a neat night to have it.

The market would be held on the grounds of her business, and would also include crafters and food vendors. Norman said there will likely be a minimal vendor fee to help with maintenance and utility costs.

Anyone interested in the market, can call Norman at the Birch Bay Garden Center at 371-5551.
