Rucker is club's top youth

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County annual dinner, Amber Rucker was awarded the Blaine Youth of the Year, as well as the Whatcom County Youth of the Year. Amber is now in competition for the State Youth of the Year, which will be announced some time in April.

For the last five years, Amber, a junior at Blaine high school, has volunteered and worked at the Blaine Boys & Girls Club as a scorekeeper and coach for basketball, instructing the program class "Goals for Growth."

"She means quite a lot to us," said Blaine boys and girls club manager Randy Kirk. "Shes been coming here and helping us for years. Shes an invaluable asset to us and to her community."

The annual dinner recognizes the volunteers and staff that keep the county boys and girls clubs rolling.

The evening began with each local club giving out awards to their respective volunteers and staff. Winners for the Blaine club were Mary Marshall as Volunteer of the Year, Dianna MacLeod and Nancy Stull shared the Board Member of the Year award.
