Bang! And it all goes goodbye
At
4:30 p.m. Monday the gavel rang down for the last time on
a marathon auction which cleared the Geographics building
of everything from printing presses to potted plants. James
G. Murphy Auctioneers sold off the bulk of 786 lots during
the October 21 auction, which kicked off at 10 a.m.
Geographics, previously one of Blaines biggest employers
with over 250 workers in 1997, laid off the last of its
workforce in spring 2002 and got out of the printing business
altogether. In a restructuring move to stay financially
viable the company has consolidated as a design and marketing
firm at their Wisconsin headquarters.
The Geographics property on Odell Road will be the next
to go. The 10 acre property is listed with C.B. Richard
Ellis in Seattle for $3 million. The facility includes an
80,000 square foot warehouse and 10,000 square feet of office
space. Agent Matt McPherson said the company is mounting
a cross-border marketing campaign to find a new business
to take over the building. .
