Pop the bubbly!

To celebrate the National holidays of Canada and the United States of America, the White Rock-South Surrey and the Blaine Community Chambers of Commerce will hold their 3RD annual champagne toast across the Canada-United States border at the Peace Arch July 1, 2002 at 1:00 p.m.

This years event follows a New Year’s toast in 2000, and July 1 toasts in 2000 and 2001. Local, provincial, state and federal dignitaries from both sides of the border are invited to raise their glass in celebration of cross-border friendship, cooperation and shared goals. They will be escorted to the Peace Arch by the Peninsula Pipers of the Royal Canadian Legion Crescent Branch 240 and the Blaine American Legion color guard #86
Citizens of both countries are invited watch the celebration, though there isn’t champagne for audience members, and are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park. A giant birthday cake decorated with the Canadian and American flags will be served to everyone attending by the White Rock Youth Ambassadors.

Champagne for the toast is courtesy of Resort Semiahmoo, invitations are sponsored by Parfour Printing and Signs of White Rock and the cake by the Celebrate Canada Committee of Canadian Heritage. Free “Jelly Belly” jelly beans will be given away courtesy of the Herman Goelitz Candy Company. ..
