What a difference a day makes
It was a smash success,
said Blaine city clerk Shirley Thorsteinson of this weekends Make a Difference
Day in Blaine. Over 70 people pitched in on Saturday, from cleaning up public
areas to helping a neighbor.
Only four or five things on our list
didnt get done but every big thing we wanted got finished, said Thorsteinson,
who maintained a list of projects for the day at city hall. City council members
and staffers cleaned up Lester Park and knocked down weeds on Peace Portal Drive,
a team from Blaine Police repainted furniture for the local head start program
and a garage sale at the senior center raised $400 to fuel the Blaine Extreme
Sports Clubs dream of a skatepark behind the library.
If
you look around, you can see the difference, Thorsteinson said. The first
citywide Make a Difference Day wont be the last, she added, and organizers
hope for a bigger and better blitz next year.
