Birch Bay chamber dinner a smash
Judging
from the laughter and applause from the crowd of more than 75 enjoying the chicken
and ribs dinner and guest speakers, the annual Birch Bay dinner and social was
a great success. The October 24 banquet was held at 2 Louies on Blaine Road.
As a highlight of the evening, guest speaker State Senator Georgia Gardner
focused her remarks on the growth and effective promotion of Birch Bay. The
Birch Bay chamber has done a great job promoting the community, she said,
adding, If we can get the people here then theyll come back and bring
the jobs with them.
Gardner also encouraged chamber members to
support a proposed gas tax increase to fund a state transportation improvement
budget, Look at it as an investment. Our county, not just Bellingham, needs
all-weather roads and other construction projects worth one billion dollars. This
would create 7,900 new jobs, and indirectly 14,500 new jobs. Economics 101 teaches
us that every one dollar invested in our community goes around nine times.
