Lions look for young artists
This
year the Birch Bay Lions Club will submit two entries to the Lions International
Peace Poster Contest. Local kids born between November 16, 1987 and November 15,
1990 may enter through the Blaine Boys and Girls Club or through the Blaine middle
school art department.
This years theme is Lighting the Path to World
Peace. Entries must depict the theme on a poster in picture form only; no words
or numbers in any language may be included. Young artists can use any medium but
it must not include computer or photographic images or other materials glued to
the poster. Each participants must be the sole artist of his or her entry and
may enter the contest only once. Entries must be in by early November.

interested in participating in the Peace Poster Contest should contact Kristin
Frady at the Blaine Boys and Girls Club or Brian Smith at Blaine middle school.
Birch Bay Lions Club will submit one winner from each of these groups to the 19th
district. These two winners will each receive a $50 savings bond and a $25 C Shop
gift certificate. One winner from district 19 will be sent to Lions Clubs International.
Twenty-three finalists will receive $500 each, and the grand prize winner will
receive a trip to Lions Day with the United Nations in New York City for the awards
ceremony where he or she will be presented with a cash award of $2,500 and an
engraved plaque. Two family members and the sponsoring Lions Club president will
accompany the winner to the ceremony in February or March of 2002..
