Volunteer Chore Program
Presented by Abby Lund
Opportunity Council/Volunteer Center
Join Abby as she discusses the Volunteer Chore Program through the Opportunity Council. This program helps low-income seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Whatcom County with basic essential tasks so that they can continue living in their own homes. They match volunteers to help with light housework, yard care, small home repairs and essential transportation to medical appointments and the grocery store. They serve as a safety net for those who don’t have the income to pay for services and don’t have friends or family that can help. They can be a great resource to seniors and adults with disabilities in our community and can also offer meaningful volunteer opportunities that happen on a flexible basis and work with a volunteer’s schedule. Sometimes, just an hour a week can make the difference between living
independently or having to move into Assisted Living or a Nursing home.
