Blaine residents could see a number of new homes constructed in Semiahmoo during the next several years but just how many will depend on the legal interpretation between state and county law.

Work is now underway on the Blaine Bank Building on Peace Portal Drive and owner and developer Ken Imus is a happy man. “We’re kind of excited, we’ll start building and we’ll see what happens,” he said. “I’m 83 years old,” he added, “I have to hurry.”

When Guo Cheng first took Tai Chi classes in high school in her native country of China, the teacher told her she had a knack for the exercise. But a young Cheng, athletic and energetic, thought the practice was too slow and instead pursued more vigorous sports like running and bicycling.

Ralph Vernacchia, director of the Center for Performance Excellence at Western Washington University and a professor in the Department of Physical Education, Health and Recreation, will speak about the legacy of the Olympic Games at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, in Arntzen Hall Room 100 on the WWU campus.
