City to hold open house on Semiahmoo plans
The city of Blaine will hold an open house on Thursday, August 6 to publicly present the next step in the Semiahmoo Resort’s development plans.
Peace Arch sculptures get pre-Olympics heave-ho
State officials have confirmed that sculptures at Peace Arch Park must be removed before the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The statement comes after the United States Canada Peace Anniversary Association’s (USCPAA) application to extend the International Sculpture Exhibition to a year was denied.
Journey of 1,000 miles ends in arrest
A thousand-mile joyride across three states ended just north of Custer on Monday morning, August 3, for five Montana teenagers when they were stopped and arrested by Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies working on a tip from the Billings, Montana police.
Toddler drowns in backyard pool
Ava Bock, an 18-month-old girl drowned Tuesday morning at her Boundary Court home in Blaine after climbing into the family swimming pool. She was found unconscious approximately ten minutes later by a family member. The pool is four feet high and ten feet in diameter, said Lisa Moeller, public information officer for the Blaine police department. It has a small ladder on the side.
