Myers resigns from city council

By Jack Kintner

After two terms as councilor and one term as mayor, Mike Myers announced his resignation from Blaine City Council.

During their regular meeting Monday, Myers cited medical reasons for his inability to take an active role on council. “I’m very sorry this happened but I picked up something that precludes my time on council,” he said. “I wish the best for everyone.”

Myers did not elaborate on his medical condition but took a last stand against the selling of the 40 acres of airport property for industrial development.

“I strongly urge you to cancel and rescind the resolution to close the airport, I still believe it’s a very valuable asset to the city.”

Newly appointed mayor Bonnie Onyon said Myers was a colleague as well as a friend.

“Mayor Myers was dedicated to serving this community, and always kept the citizens' best interests at heart,” she said. “I will miss him as a colleague and as a friend.”

In the meantime, Myers said he will “just try to stay alive.”

"I leave the city in good hands, we have a very good council and we have a top notch city staff," he said.
