More than 280 people registered for the plunge although many jumped in without registering according to event organizers.

Members of the Davis family, of Custer, Bellingham, Laurel and Semiahmoo, brought the end of the year to a close at the 4th annual Ring of Fire and Hope. More than 700 flares were passed out, though cold weather shortened the length of time people were willing to stay on the beach and the event ended soon after the flares burned out.
