The concert of the Komatsumeihou High School began at 7 p.m. with a large and enthusiastic audience welcoming the performers on to the stage with a continuous round of applause. The first half of the evening captured a variety of emotions and moods with a light and airy "Brian's Holiday" by Junichi Naito, a vocal and instrumental version of "Amazing Grace" arranged by Frank Tichelli and the "Symphonic Beatles", a medley of recognizable Beatles tunes. The final number of the first half was a spectacular performance of a traditional Japanese piece called "The Dance of the Phoenix".
The second half of the concert was full of fun!! Lots of dancing, audience participation and lively tunes interspersed with pieces like "Toccatta without instruments" with the band using voice and body for their instruments. Following two encores and a standing ovation the concert was over and the students and chaperones returned to their buses for the journey back to Canada. The rest of their week is filled with performances and activities until their return to Japan on Saturday, April 5. - Leslee Smith |
