GARDENING

Workshop explores meditative side of gardening

By Tara Nelson

The Birch Bay Meditation Center has scheduled a free organic gardening and composting workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at their center at 5560 Bayvue Road in Birch Bay.

The workshop will feature discussions on effective strategies for organic and sustainable gardening with Nature’s Path organic program manager Dag Falck, as well as master composter and recycler Bob Hendricks and organic gardener Ron Kulman.

The event will also include discussions on how organic gardening and produce can help contribute to one’s spiritual and emotional health.
Kulman said he hopes the workshop will encourage individuals to think of the center as a community-friendly place.

“We’re trying to get people comfortable with the center to the point where they think they can just come by anytime,” he said.

For more information, or to register, call 371-5560. A no-cost organic vegetarian lunch will be provided.
