New border crossing ID announced
In a press conference Tuesday with Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff announced a new passport card as an affordable option for crossing the border when new regulations come into effect in 2008.

City expresses concern about border crossing plans
In the pre-Olympic rush to build a new port of entry, city manager Gary Tomsic is worried Blaine could get left behind.

WWU study predicts impact of passport initiative
When the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced its plans to push for legislation that would require all visitors to the United States to possess a passport, some Whatcom County business owners worried it could result in a reduction in tourism and spending – and they might be right, according to a study by the Border Policy Research Institute (BPRI) at Western Washington University.

Newell trial to begin next week
Judge David Grant dropped one of two misdemeanor charges against Blaine high school principal Dan Newell Tuesday in Whatcom County District Court. The remaining charge goes to trial next week.
