REPORTS
January
17: A Blaine resident in the 300 block of 11th Street
reported her house had been burglarized and property
valued at more than $6,000 had been stolen. A possible
suspect has been identified, and police are investigating.
January
17: Officers were asked to assist the Washington State
Patrol with the closure of Interstate 5. The interstate
was closed while Canada Customs investigated an incident.
Officers and USBP agents provided traffic control until
WSP troopers arrived on scene.
January
16: A police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding in
the 2700 block of Peace Portal Drive and found the driver
to have a suspended license. The driver was arrested
and processed at the scene and released with a mandatory
court appearance date. The driver was also issued infractions
for speed and no proof of insurance.
January
14: Officers responded to a report of a physical domestic
dispute in the 9700 block of Allan Street. Upon arrival
officers learned a couple had been in an argument over
their daughter. During the argument the man caused damage
to the house and some personal property. He was arrested
and booked into Whatcom County Jail on charges of malicious
mischief third degree domestic violence.

14: Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person
at the post office. Officers learned the reporting person
had seen a man run from the post office and leave in
a vehicle. The reporting person then attempted to follow
the vehicle. Officers checked the post office and found
nothing amiss. The reporting person was then contacted
by police and advised against following suspicious vehicles
in the future.

13: A woman called 911 and told the dispatcher she needed
help. She hung up the phone before the dispatcher could
obtain additional information. Officers responded to
the 200 block of 15th Street and saw a car leaving the
area as they were arriving. Officers proceeded to the
residence and contacted a man there who said he had been
in an argument with his wife, and she had left. Officers
found no evidence in the residence to indicate a struggle
had taken place. Officers cleared as there appeared to
be no crime and the complainant could not be contacted.

13: Blaine police officers provided mutual assistance
to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s office at an
assault call in the county. Officers assisted by maintaining
a perimeter around the scene and photographing the
victim’s
injuries before he was transported to the hospital
for observation. Deputies took the suspect into custody
without incident and officers cleared the scene.
January
13: A parent reported her 10-year-old son was assaulted
while on the school bus. The boy received only minor
injuries during the altercation. A suspect has been
identified and the case is under investigation.
January
12: A woman reported that the father of her child had
taken their daughter to another state. Investigation
revealed no criminal wrongdoing on the part of the
father. The complainant was provided with information
regarding appropriate custodial procedures. A welfare
check of the dad and daughter in Oregon found the pair
in good health and the child in good spirits. Mom was
advised.
January
12: WCSO requested mutual aid at a domestic dispute just
outside of the city limits. While en route to the incident
officers learned that a teenage girl at the residence
had been fighting with her parents. The girl was reportedly
threatening to harm herself with a cutting instrument.
Officers arrived and made contact with the girl and her
parents. It was determined the girl was a threat to herself
and she was detained for her own safety. She was turned
over to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s office upon
their arrival at the scene.
January
12: A concerned neighbor called police to report loud
screaming coming from an apartment in the 300 block of
Alder Street. Police arrived and determined the
disturbance stemmed from a verbal domestic
dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend.
However, when the police began to run wanted checks
on the subjects involved, the male subject fled from
police through an open living room window of the
apartment. It is likely the man fled to avoid being
arrested on several outstanding felony and misdemeanor
warrants the officers were about to discover. A search
of the area was conducted, but the man was not located.
January
11: A married couple in the 200 block of 14th Street
reported that an ex-boyfriend was making harassing/nuisance
phone calls to their residence at all hours. An officer
called the man at the number from which he has been placing
the harassing calls. The man was not home and his current
whereabouts are unknown. The officer spoke to the mother
of the suspect as a first step in attempting to end
the problem. The officer warned of the possible legal
consequences if the calls do not desist. The mother
understood and agreed to forward the information to her adult son.
January
11: Officers were advised of a hit and run that had
just occurred. The suspect was seen fleeing the scene
in the 600 block of H Street and was reported to be parked
at the high school. Police meet with witnesses, and the
suspect was identified. The 16-year-old suspect was
then contacted. In addition to the hit and run, the teenage
driver was also found to be in violation of the restrictions
of his driver’s license. He was arrested, processed
and released to a parent.
January
11: An officer received a report of a burglary in
the 1600 block of Peace Portal Drive. Someone
entered a fenced area and stole the
radios from several of the vehicles
inside the locked compound. There
are no suspects at this time.
January
10: A transient male came into the police department
office to request a voucher for a hotel room. The policies
regarding emergency assistance were explained to the
man, and he was offered assistance in getting to the
Lighthouse Mission in Bellingham as an alternative. The
subject refused the assistance that was offered and went
on his way.
January
10: The vehicle of an intoxicated individual was towed
to the border by Canada Customs officials. In lieu of
having the U.S. government impound the vehicle from the
port property, the man had his vehicle towed for safekeeping
until he sobered up enough to drive. An officer attempted
to get the man a motel room downtown but was unsuccessful.
The person was left at an open business so he could drink
coffee until a restaurant opened.
January
10: The manager of a complex in the 300 block of Alder
Street contacted the police and requested a subject be
trespassed from the property. The individual had been
involved in continuing verbal altercations with some
of the tenants of the property. The subject was trespassed,
and officers cleared.
January
10: A citizen reported contacting a driver in the 700
block of Peace Portal Drive who had a heavy odor of intoxicants
about his person. The reporting party then stated the
driver was last seen driving down the road in reverse.
Officers contacted the driver and arrested him for DUI.
The 57-year-old man was cited and released with a mandatory
court appearance.
January
10: A couple reported that a realtor had stolen over
$2,000 from them in the course of a business agreement.
