Bay steering plan completed
The
community has been invited to learn more about The Birch
Bay Community Plan, A 2020 Look to the Future, a publication
outlining the growth of Birch Bay, and compiled by the Birch
Bay community plan steering committee.
In
addition to plan information, a shoreline improvement report
will also be discussed during a presentation on Saturday,
September 20, from 10 a.m. to noon at Christ the King facility
at the Peace Arch Outlet Center, I-5 at Birch Bay-Lynden
Road.
After
this public presentation, the plan will next head to the
Whatcom County planning commission on Thursday, September
25 at 6:30 p.m. This public meeting will be held in the
council chambers of the county courthouse in Bellingham,
where it will be the recommended Birch Bay sub-area plan
in the Whatcom County comprehensive plan. It will then go
to the Whatcom County council for adoption.
The
community plan can be viewed online at www.smartgrowthbirchbay.org
or via hard copy at the Blaine Public Library, located at
610 3rd Street. The plan is also available for viewing and
for sale at $32.45 per copy at the Whatcom County planning
division office at Northwest Annex, Suite A, 5280 Northwest
Drive, Bellingham.
About
three years ago, the Birch Bay community started to plan
for Birch Bay’s long-term future, with more than 2,000 residents
attending meetings.
The
steering committee consists of elected representatives from
10 neighborhoods. Those interested in getting involved can
