Spotting
scope to be erected at Marine Park, funds still needed
In
memory of Reg Campin, a long-time local resident, teacher
and principal at Blaine schools, a spotting scope will soon
be erected at Marine Park.
The
scope, an SM-1000 telescope with steps, will stand near
the third shelter and will be free of charge to use.
“This
is really going to be nice to have,” said Jim Jorgensen,
a main influence with the project. “You can watch different
birds or watch boats going by.”
The
scope, he said, has already been purchased through the Reg
Campin memorial fund, however about $1,000 is still needed.
“We’ve
ordered the scope and it should arrive some time next month,”
Jorgensen said. “But we still need money and are accepting
donations.”
Due
to the fact there have been two incidents of vandalism at
Marine Park, the new scope will not be enclosed, Jorgensen
said.
With
the summer months coming, more tourists and local families,
will be coming to the area.
“We
love hanging out here at the park,” said Mary Matthews,
a local mother of four children. “The kids love watching
the birds, the boats and just the water. And having a scope
here will be even nicer.”
