New manager at Semiahmoo

“I’ve always loved this place, so much so that in high school I’d skip classes to come down here on nice days and hang out on the spit,” said 1978 Richmond (B.C.) High School graduate Tom Waithe. Last month he was appointed general manager at Resort Semiahmoo by MTM Management after three years managing the Woodmark Inn, another MTM facility in Kirkland.

Waithe’s route from Richmond, B.C., to Semiahmoo involved summers driving tour buses in the Rockies and running resorts in Japan and Hawaii. He’s originally from Rivers, Manitoba, but became an American years ago while his father was serving with the U.S. Air Force.

“We still have family in Vancouver,” he said, “so this location is ideal. Of course, all our kids care about is that now Daddy’s hotel has a pool.” Waithe, 42, and his wife Sandy have two kids, Rebecca, 4, and Will, 2.
