Thanks for the future
The Editor:
I would personally like to thank all of the teachers, staff,
and administration of the Blaine school system, who for
over the last 12 years have given to my son the tools and
skills and education which has allowed him to attain the
grades and life skills to become on of the accepted students
for the fall entry into the University of Washington.
Without
the educational skills that have been instilled in him by
the teachers and support staff under the leadership of Dr.
Dolman, these goals would not have become a reality.
Under
their academic teaching program with superior teachers he
will now be able to go forth and become a productive member
of society, with the knowledge he has gained from the Blaine
school system.
We,
as parents, owe a great deal of admiration to the Blaine
school system for taking the lumps of silly putty we call
our children when they enter school and turning out the
fine young men and women that someday will rule and govern
the world we live in.
Thank
you so much Blaine school system for all that you do.

NAFTA
loophole
The Editor:
As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on trade negotiating
authority, the ability of Washingtons citizens to
protect human health and the environment rests in the hands
of our senators, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.
A
little-known provision of NAFTA called Chapter 11 allows
foreign corporations to sue our government for enacting
health and environmental laws.
Using
Chapter 11, a Canadian corporation has sued the U.S. for
$1 billion after California decided to phase-out a toxic
gasoline additive.
Surely,
this corporation should not be allowed to challenge our
countrys health and safety standards in this way.
Yet, now the U.S. is negotiating to expand these investor
lawsuits to more companies from more countries.
Senators
Murray and Cantwell, please dont trade away our democracy!
