Helping
parents help kids
The Blaine Family Service Center’s spring workshop series
kicks off next week with a series of classes to help adults
help kids.
In the first workshop on April 2, family therapist Kathleen
Westover and psychiatrist Robert Watson will teach parents
how to help their children deal with grief and loss, from
losing a family pet to divorce and abuse.
April 16 Kathleen Casprowitz of the Sylvan Learning Center
will give tips for parents, students and teachers to work
together developing good study habits and “end the homework
hassle.”
Police officer Debra Hertz has made internet safety for
children one of her specialties. On April 23 she will teach
parents and teachers how to keep kids safe while they surf,
with tips on monitoring a child’s internet use without stifling
them, working with children on the internet and developing
good online attitudes.
Camp Willie grief camp founders Mica Hartley, Michael Jacobsen
and Paul Mulholland close the series April 30 with a workshop
on how to help a child cope with the loss of a loved one.
The workshops are held in the elementary school library.
