Border Patrol makes record coke seizure

On January 23 Blaine border patrol agents found 76 pounds of cocaine lying in a ditch separating the U.S. from Canada. The cocaine, found shortly after midnight, was packed into 31 laundry soap boxes all stuffed in a large black backpack. When they found the boxes agents brought in a detector dog who tipped them off that the boxes held more than soap and a lab test proved the dog right. Drug enforcement administration officers speculated the seizure, the largest in the history of the Blaine border patrol station, would be worth $800,000 and was probably bound for Canadian streets.
