LIVING
LIFE TO THE FULLEST - LIFE BEGINS AT 50
Lend a hand!
Volunteering
is a way to meet new people and get involved in the community.
For opportunities at the Semiahmoo Museum or the Plover
spring through fall, contact Richard Sturgill at 332-5742
with Drayton Harbor Maritime . To get involved with the
community oyster farm or water quality improvement projects
call Geoff Menzies at 384-9135.
Find out about becoming part of the Blaine Beautification
Committee at city hall or join in a Birch Bay event through
the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce.
In the spring/summer, the Blaine Visitor Information Center
has volunteer openings (332-4544). Volunteers are a big
help to the senior center and Stafholt Good Samaritan Center
as well.
Meals on Wheels means the difference between a hot dinner
and crackers for many older county residents. To help out
contact the Whatcom Council on Ageing at 733-4030.
The Whatcom Literacy Council has plenty of opportunities
helping local adults learn to read. They are hosting a prospective
volunteer tutor orientation Monday, April 1 at 7 p.m. The
orientation will take place at Bellingham Technical College
in Building G. No previous teaching or foreign language
skills needed.
There are also plenty of volunteer opportunities at Blaine
schools, from helping with reading to fundraising. Contact
the district office at 332-5881 to learn about them.
To find out about the full spectrum of volunteer opportunities
in the county and in Blaine, try calling the Whatcom Volunteer
Center at 734-3055 or the Senior Information and Assistance
network at 738-2500.
