BP super on state board

Governor Gary Locke has appointed Captain Craig Lee, port superintendent for BP Cherry Point Refinery, to the state board of pilotage commissioners. The board examines and licenses pilots for vessels in the state’s inland waters, fixes pilotage rates, sets rules and regulations and arbiters them. “If there’s ever an incident we’d be there to investigate it,” Lee said.
Lee said a spot on the seven-man board was a logical extension to a career at sea. “I’ve been at sea for 20 years before coming here,” Lee said. “It’s been my whole career and I thought it would be good to have a professional mariner on board.”
Before becoming the port superintendent for the refinery, Lee worked as a captain of Arco vessels and later as a port captain and cargo officer. At BP Cherry Point, he inspects and monitors vessels for safe and efficient performance, and makes sure every vessel coming to the refinery meets with all state, federal and local regulations. .
