Borderites win 2 of 3
By Neil
Macdonald
Blaine
defeated Lakewood 12-2 on April 8 and lost a 2-0 decision
to Lynden Christian on April 11 at the Pipe before beating
the Lyncs 10-5 at LC on April 12 in North Cascades Conference
spring break baseball action.
Grant
Sanders started the April 12 tilt at LC. He struck out the
initial Lyncs batter, then got the next three LC batters
to turn his curve into dirt-gathering grounders each
a potential out but faulty Borderite fielding turned
each into an error. Taylor DeBoers single quickly
transformed two of the resultant runners into a 2-0 LC lead.
But the outcome of a baseball game can be taken by a Grant,
but never for granted.
Despite
the nightmarish opening inning, Sanders went the distance,
scattering five hits and striking out 10 to get the win.
The Borderites were without Craig Anderson in the April
12 game. Anderson, one of Blaines better batters,
was visiting Northeast Oklahoma Community College on a recruiting
sight-see.
The
victory left Blaine in second place in the NCC with a 9-1
record. That lone NCC loss came in the April 11 LC game.
Lync hurler Mark Holleman struck out nine while throwing
a 3-hit shutout at the Borderites. Blaine had several chances
to score, but came up empty. They had a runner thrown out
at the plate in the third, failed to score after loading
the bases in the fourth and had two aboard in the seventh
but werent able to score. The loss ended an eight-game
Borderite NCC winning streak.
Blaine
scored 10 runs in the first three innings in the Lakewood
game and matched a two-run Cougar fifth with two more of
their own. Sanders hit a two-run home run, drew two walks
and tallied three RBIs.
Teammate
Kyle Dhanani went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Anderson
was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Starter Chris Kleman picked
up the win his second..

Neil's
Notes
McGee, Coulter, Riddle place
at Pasco
Blaine picked up two fourths and a fifth at the prestigious
Pasco Invitational in the dry side city on April 13.
Nik
McGee finished fourth in the boys shot-put with a
55'10"toss that fell two inches short of Woodinvilles
Cameron Neels third place effort. Distance diva Grace
Coulter ran a respectable 11:16.88 to place fourth in the
girls 3200m run and Becky Riddle was fifth in the
girls shot with a 37'10" throw that landed two-and-a-half
inches short of fourth place.
Lady Bs split with Lady Ks
Blaine traveled to Leavenworth to split a spring break pair
of non-conference fastpitch games with Cascade, losing 5-4
decision to the Lady Kodiaks on April 9 and winning 5-2
on April 10.
Cascade
jumped into a 5-0 lead after four innings in the April 9
game before Blaine closed things to 5-4 on Alisa Burks
3-run base-emptying double and subsequent run on an error.
The Lady Bs matched the Lady Ks in hits (5 each),
made one less error (3 to Cascades 4), but fell a
run short of tying and two short of winning the game.
The
Ks were up 1-0 after four innings in the April 10
tilt when Blaines offense took over, outscoring Cascade
5-1 in the final three innings. Krista Walter threw a 3-hitter
for the win.
Blaines
bat attack included Burk going 3-for-4; Lacy Cheatwood,
3-for-4 with a RBI and Kaylyn Bird igniting the Lady Bs
3-run fifth inning with a 2-run bases-loaded double.

Andrew Price won the midget 80 lb. category and Jacob Humphrey,
the novice 65-lb. class for the Blaine Barracudas at the
Hawkeye Invitational wrestling tournament in Anacortes on
