The
Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce invited John Cooper executive
director of Bellingham Whatcom County Convention
and Visitors Bureau to their Tuesday meeting to explain
a new tourist booster program.
Bring it Home is a campaign calling for
grass root support to help us attract visitors to Whatcom
County, Cooper explained. He listed nine ways everyone
can get involved, but highlighted two.
Bring your organizations events - retreat, reunion,
seminar, to Whatcom County. For example, a physics teacher
at Sehome high school got the Young Engineers International
Bridge-building competition to come to Bellingham. Families
add up to a lot of tourists and customers, he said.
Individuals can make a big difference to the community,
encourage friends and family to visit, Cooper said.
The next Birch Bay coming event, free for everyone, is a
new game Disc Golf to be held May 4 and 5 at the Birch Bay
Golf Club. People tee off with a frisbee-type disc, throwing
it toward one basket after another. For more information
on this event, go to www.birchbaychamber.com
