Local
musicians tour northwest
The
North Cascades Concert Band, featuring local musicians Marjorie
Reichhardt on bass clarinet and Jake Hamburg on oboe, starts
its spring concert series this month.
On April 27 they will play the Blaine performing arts center,
bringing their tribute to John Philip Sousa, combining the
jaunty march music popularized by Sousa with a variety of
musical favorites and classical standards. The bands
program stretches the boundaries of the traditional brass
repertoire with selections ranging from a brass arrangement
of Carl Orfs Carmina Burana to Oklahoma by Rogers
and Hammerstein.
The orchestra brings together 58 musicians from all over
northwestern Washington who, since 1994, have been bringing
a fresh sound to popular composers and premiering some of
the regions best soloists.
The April 27 Blaine concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets
are available at the door or by calling 676-9950.
