High school reacts to attack

By K. Cunningham

“I was quite shocked. I feel very sad for the people who died. It was like a bad Hollywood movie.” said German exchange student Roman Hiergeist.
Last Tuesday our country was changed forever as terrorists flew hijacked planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and into a field in Pennsylvania. Many people lost their lives as they started their workday. People in this area learned of this horrible tragedy shortly after they woke up Tuesday morning.

Blaine high school students joined the nation in a moment of silence on Friday at 12:30. At the football game Friday night a moment of silence was followed by music teacher Andy Harmening singing the national anthem.

“This just goes to show the terrorists that they have failed and it just unifies us as a country,” said senior Ben Mallahan. “I don’t think anything terrible will happen but the world will change.”

Students had mixed views on whether the U.S. should go to war. “I think we should go to war because it shows that the U.S. will stand up for themselves,” said junior Ryan Johnson.

“I think we shouldn’t go to war because in 50 years we’ll have another war,” said junior Brandon Kowalik.

“I think it is important to do whatever is necessary to keep people safe,” said senior Ryan Gudmundson “I think what happened on Tuesday will change the way people act. I thought it brought the American nation together.”
