This
ladys not so naughty and sounds very nice. At
first glance, Naughty Ladies of the Night would seem to be a bit of
an ironic title to show in Blaine following the recent uproar over the downtown
adult bookstore. But Sandy Wolf of the Pacific Arts Association says that she
would take her six-year-old grandson to see it. There is nothing risqué
in this show. This is a collage of historical theater, Wolf said.
Naughty
Ladies of the Night, features Nancy Hermiston who will express the joys,
sorrows and exhilaration of women through some of our cultures greatest
musical gems. As explained by Wolf, a womans power has traditionally resulted
from her sexuality or naughtiness. Some of the women portrayed are victims of
circumstance, others are protagonists.
Hermistons selections include
Queen of the Night from The Magic Flute, Musettas Aria
from La Boheme, I Cant Say No from Oklahoma and I Dont
Know How to Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar.
Hermiston
is extremely, extremely talented, said Connie Orgonas a Blaine resident
who was on the music faculty at Rice University in Houston, TX. She (Hermiston)
has performed with opera companies in Nuremberg, Innsbruck, Dusseldorf and Mainz
and has made guest appearances with many North American opera and symphony organizations.
When
not celebrating outrageous females in song, Hermiston is head of both the opera
and voice department at the University of British Columbia. She is recognized
as one of Europes most versatile and exciting vocal artists. This
show is for kids on up, Orgonas said. Its wonderful entertainment
for the entire family.
