Student show at art center
By Jack
Kintner
The
Blaine Art Center at 481 Peace Portal Drive is showing work
from students in Brian Smiths advance placement art
class daily from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. through December 7th.
The theme is the events of September 11. The day after they
occurred, Smith asked his students to express their reaction
to the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington,
D.C.
It wasnt, of course, part of the regular lesson
plan for the fall, Smith said. Its still
a big deal two months later, so these paintings became a
way for the students to take their time and react thoughtfully.
This is the result, Smith said.
Gallery visitors will vote for their favorites, and on the
final day the winner will receive a $25 savings bond.
Students showing work at the gallery include seniors Anna
Dean, Jamie Fisher, Nathan Karuza, Laura Naegele, Matt Ross
and Rob Sands; juniors Victoria Sweet, Robbie Birch and
Linda Poole; sophomores Dustin Hartman,Lisa Kent, Shawn
Lemay, Lauren Swartos, Jessica Teng; freshmen Dana Werdal
and Lisa Wierzbicki.
